You might notice if you log into the game from now until around June, there’s basically a birthday every other day.
This is one of those things you don’t think about until pointed out, but long story short: That’s how horses be.
Simply put, the horse breeding cycle starts in early spring and ends in early summer in the northern hemisphere, with some exceptions where mares start showing signs as early as late winter.
And this makes perfect sense from an evolutionary standpoint, horses have pregnancies that go for around 11 months, which means that if a pregnancy starts in spring, the baby won’t be born in the hottest or coldest months of the year.
At this point I should add a retroactive clarification: I’ve been using the term “Stallion” and “Mare” liberally which isn’t WRONG, the problem is that those are the terms you use after they’re 4 years old, before that they’re respectively called “Colt” and “Filly”.
What this means is that (to bring the latest example) Special Week was born a Colt but was a Stallion when he won the Nihon Derby.
It isn’t anything too groundbreaking, just one of those smaller details worth point out, like referring to the game’s trainer by specific pronouns when they can be either, or writing the name of Shadai Farm as Shaddai Farm.
But yeah, if you were curious why all the birthdays are packed so close together, this is why.
